VERTIGO
Vertigo Treatment with our Licensed Physical Therapist Richard O’Quinn
Vertigo is a disorienting sensation of spinning or motion that can disrupt balance, mobility, and daily activities. At our clinic, a licensed Physical Therapist with specialized training in vestibular rehabilitation provides targeted, non-invasive treatment to help patients recover safely and effectively.
Expert Assessment
The physical therapy process begins with a thorough comprehensive evaluation of the vestibular system(inner ear), including:
Positional testing to identify inner ear involvement (vertigo/loose crystals/BPPV)
Gait and balance assessment
Occular motor Eexam (Screening of eye movement)
Identification of motion sensitivities and functional impairments
This allows the therapist to determine the cause and design a personalized treatment plan.
Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT)
Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy is an evidence-based approach used by physical therapists to treat dizziness, vertigo, and balance disorders. VRT may include:
Canalith repositioning maneuvers (vertigo/loose crystals/BPPV)
Gaze stabilization exercises to retrain visual focus during movement
Balance and postural control training to reduce fall risk
Habituation exercises to desensitize motion sensitivity
Functional Focus
Treatment is tailored to each patient's goals—whether returning to work, driving, or managing daily tasks without fear of falling. The physical therapist monitors progress closely and adjusts the plan based on symptom response and functional improvements.
Education and Home Exercise Support
Patients are educated about their condition and guided through a custom home program to reinforce clinic-based treatment. Instructions often include strategies for symptom management, safe movement patterns, and long-term prevention.
