PRP Facet Joint Injection Recommendation

PRP facet joint injections combine modern technology with the body’s own abilities for accelerated healing. They are generally recommended to patients suffering from back pain when treatments such as medications, physical therapy, chiropractic treatment and other medical interventions have failed to relieve pain stemming from facet joint damage.

PRP Facet Joint Injection Process

To begin treatment, we will draw the patient’s blood. This blood is then spun in a machine called a centrifuge that uses high speeds to separate the four main components of the blood. Once the components are separated, the platelet-rich plasma is removed. This plasma is then injected into specified facet joints, After the injection, we monitor the patient for a short period to ensure that there are no immediate complications or adverse reactions to the procedure. The patient is then sent home with recovery instructions.  Most patients return to work the next day.

Purpose of Facet Joint Injections

When the platelet-rich plasma is injected into the facet joints, it releases three to five times the growth factors compared to normal human blood. This allows the growth factors to recruit and increase the proliferation of reparative cells. In summary—the injection helps your body heal itself by increasing the number of cells that can assist with repairing your body.
